Alan Beckley completed his PhD study in 2019 on the subject of: Examining human rights and ethical practice in Australian policing: A New South Wales Case Study. He has had a portfolio career, starting with several years in the retail sector in London, in the roles of sales, purchasing and production. He then worked as a UK police officer, serving for 30 years in Surrey Police and West Mercia Constabulary. After finishing that role, he became a management consultant for nine years, working in the public sector in the UK and with national police forces in UK and Europe.  The bulk of his consultancy work was focused at central government level, mainly program and project management and organizational development.  His expertise is in corporate governance and police ethics/human rights issues, risk and contingency planning in the police service and comparative legal and policing studies. Alan was then appointed in academic and professional staff roles in several UK and Australian universities; his main research work relates to: Human Rights, Responses to Major and Critical Incidents and Police Ethics. He is a published author on many police-related and higher education subjects and has completed international assignments in education and police organizations.
